Full Time Internet Affiliate Marketing Veteran

Hello Friends,

Is your ultimate goal to create a full time income online?

About 6 years back that is exactly what my goal was. I started part time while also working in the truck driving / moving industry. I told myself that I would go to bed 1 hour later & get up 1 hour earlier giving myself at least 2 hours a day to devote to my online business.

I also made an agreement with myself that I wouldn't quit my full time job until my online income matched my full time job's income. There have been many ups and downs throughout the past 6 years and I have learned so much about online marketing as well as about myself and people in general.

I learned not to take things personal and that not everyone that I love and respect will agree with my choices and path that I have chosen. The simple truth is – Most people do fail at internet marketing, network marketing, affiliate marketing etc. because they do take things personally.

So back to the earning an income on a 2 hour a day 5 day a week schedule (Back when I also had a 50+ hour a week salaried job I also said that I wouldn't work weekends as weekends are for Family) There were many times that I thought I was on my way and ended up crashing back to earth. There were also many times that I thought I was ready to give up and something Awesome happened giving me the courage, motivation and inspiration to keep working. A little while back I actually achieved on a consistent basis the matching income of my full time job with my “Hobby & Internet Playing” as so many of my Family & Friends referred to my internet work. Since then I have not maintained that income level, I have blasted past it and now am very close to double what I used to make at my salaried job.

The biggest change now is that I don't work 10 hours a week online and 50+ hours a week at a salaried job. I work in the morning for about 1/2 an hour (While Vance is in the shower) then I drive Him to School at 6:30am and work until about 2:30pm when I pick Him up from School. Some nights He has band or baseball and I am active with both (I'm not very musical so with the band I load the instruments, chaperone 1 of the buses and whatever else the Band Instructor asks of me) (With the baseball team however I am His coach and besides fishing, baseball is my next favorite thing to enjoy with Vance)

The weekends depend much on what Vance and I have going on as to when I work or when I don't work. Most Friday nights I am with Vance at the football games for marching band. Most Saturdays Vance and I do Family stuff (I have 4 younger Sisters here in Michigan and between them I have 9 Nieces & Nephews ranging in ages from 9 – 26 as well as 4 Great Nieces & Nephews ages 6 months to 6 years old) Normally we stay busy playing sports, fishing, video gaming etc. On Sunday we attend Church then have Dinner as a Family (One Sunday per month everyone who can attend, we all meet at an all You can eat buffet) They shiver when they see us walking thru the door as we are not little people and we have huge appetites.

So when it is all said and done I work somewhere between 40-50 hours a week online compared to 60+ hours when I worked a full time salaried job and online from home on my internet business. The biggest difference is that with my full time salaried 50+ hour a week job that I used to dread I wasn't able to be with Vance and my Sisters, Nieces & Nephews like I am now.

(Oh, I forgot to mention. I do also have a younger Brother as well, He lives with His Family Southeast of Houston Texas) I must mention that my Mom, God Bless Her Soul in Heaven had me when She was almost 19, then year after year for the next 4 years my other Siblings. She was 24 years old and had a 4 year old, a 3 year old, a 2 year old, a 1 year old and a newborn. (5 Children 4 & younger) My youngest Sister who was born 5 years later wasn't supposed to be possible as my Mom had surgery to prevent pregnancy after my second to the youngest Sister.

The past 6 years has been an Awesome Journey and I don't plan to stop now.

The main difference about how I spend my time working online now versus back when I first started is that now I am able to also help Friends to earn an income online from anywhere in the World. That is where my greatest joy comes from as I am so excited and happy when a Friend who I am helping calls, emails, messages or texts me when they get their 1st sale or when they reach a goal and get to set new goals.

I am honored and humbled that God has gifted me with the ability to help Friends. I am just an old country boy who joined the United States Army upon graduating from High School because I didn't know what I wanted to be. Then I wore myself out in the moving industry performing duties first as a driver/mover then dispatcher then quality control and regional manager / move consultant and never earning over $100,000 even though I worked many hours and left much blood, sweat & tears along the way.

Now that I am much older & wiser it is nice to use my mind and knowledge instead of my body to earn a living full time on the internet.

On a personal note – below is a little bit about myself and my personal life.

I was born in Kentucky but raised in Michigan and have lived here my whole life except for my 7 years that I served in the Army (1984-1991)when I lived in Germany, Georgia, Missouri, Indiana and Kansas.

I have an awesome teenaged Son named Vance (His Mom is in Heaven, She died of cancer right before his 12th Birthday) (Vance is the handsome young man with me in my profile picture) His Mom and I adopted Him at His birth – I have always referred to Him as my “Favorite Best Buddy in the Whole Wide World”

I love fishing, baseball, affiliate marketing, Social Media, Internet Marketing, Wealthy Affiliate, Jesus, God, Family & Friends. Not necessarily in that order.

Prior to being an Internet Affiliate Marketing Professional I was a mover/driver – I have driven in and moved Families to all of the 48 Continental States, Mexico & Canada. I have also been to France, Germany & Portugal while in the United States Army.

  1. Hey Tony lee Hamilton, thank you for sharing this your life story as i found it very interesting and also very inspiring. As a novice in digital marketing, it hit me differently and also showed me that the future is  bright if I put in enough work like you did. I have gone through your website and profile, and I see you as a mentor in this field

  2. You take a moment to reflect on how far you have come and where you want to go. You think about the fact that you would like to make your internet marketing business full time and enjoy the benefits that come with it: No More Commuting, no more office politics, no more relying on a job for income (With Benefits), keeping your weekends free etc.

The only thing is, you’ve been through this many times before and failed many times before.

  3. It is so cool to hear your whole success story. You are seriously someone I wholeheartedly look up to in this business.  The hard work you put in from the beginning has totally paid off and you are a mentor to so many. I bet all those friends who gauffed at you when you started out, have learned to keep their mouth shut now! Congrats on everything and your son must be beaming with pride, just as you are about him, which is totally evident by you involvement with his activities!

  5. My alternate goal is to become a full time affiliate marketer. I want to be able to do my own business at my own time without having to leave my house and this will give me the opportunity to spend time with my family and build a particular bond with them, also I want to leave my enemies wondering what I really do that earns me the kind of money I make.

  6. The freedom of spending time with your family that is my ultimate goal with affiliate marketing.

I think being a disciplined person, I have fixed myself some goals and I am working towards meeting them. But I have to say that affiliate marketing involves work. People should not think that it just happens. It is a beautiful thing to enjoy passive income but you need to lay the foundations before enjoying anything.

    You did a great job!

    Thanks

  7. I’m so motivated on reading your biography. If you can pass through all this hurdle and now become a successful affiliate marketer, I believe I can too. I have a job that is given me a bit of tightness .i.e. not being able to have time for the Internet. I’ll try my best to squeeze out time no matter what. I’ll take this as a challenge.

  24. Tony,

I read almost all of your articles and I love them.  I have to say that I did not know any of this about you and I am so grateful that you have shared this!  Before you were obviously a successful affiliate marketer and I took what you wrote to heart and tried to implement many of your practices or ideas into my own online presence.

However, after reading this article I am so touched by your story!  I love that you are a dad first and that working online has allowed you to connect with your family! That is the stage that I am in as well.  I also need to just buckle down and figure out those 3-4 hrs a day that I put into this business (I don’t have a full time job I have a part time job and I’m a single mom which is basically an unpaid full time job)! You are an inspiration!  I will continue to follow your site and take your advice even more to heart!

Thank you for such honesty and giving us all a look at your wonderful family!  It really humanizes you advice!

It is not easy for people to begin to believe that they can earn much more on the Internet than a regular job that lasts from 9 to 5, and it sounds completely unreal to them that this online job can one day lead to the dismissal of a boss who annoys them and to leave everything they don’t like to do and move into the realm of online business.

It’s something that I am actively aiming for right now, and since you have laid out the requirements for achieving the same, the ball rests on my hand now, so I have to work harder while building my online business, wake up earlier like you did, and not quit my current source of income until my online income supersede that present income. It’s just a matter of time until I enjoy the freedom that you enjoy right now. This story of yours is synonymous to the saying “No guts, no glory”.

From time to time, I will try to contact you to seek your assistance in implementing the same in my business, maybe you can help me like giving me advice of “what to do” and “what not to do” in my own online business. Soon, I will become a full time internet affiliate marketer like you.

  34. It seems like the two of us have a little bit in common.  I served in the navy from 1986-  1989 the first 2yrs. Were on the USS MIDWAY where I was stationed in yokuska Japan.  The second ship was the USS Bellauwood  where I was stationed at SanDiego California.  Both were aircraft carriers,  and I worked my buy off as an aircraft handler. Once getting out of the service I worked whatever job that I could to support my wife and kids. Now I am on disability and working part-time as a security guard, just to help my wife make ends meet. That’s the main reason I am trying to succeed at affiliate marketing. Have a blessed weekend my friend. Sincerely John D.

It is a very honest account of all the ups and downs involved in building an online business that can not only match a full time salary, but go on to double it. You are demonstrating here the kind of mentality required to really succeed in this business. It would have been easy to simply give up and conclude that you can’t make good money online. I do believe, like you said, many people give up to early when they are about to have a breakthrough and achieve greatness.

It reminds me of the story, 3 feet from gold. The guy, in the story, was working hard and digging away to find gold and he finally gave up when he was 3 feet from hitting and finding gold.

I believe with personal development, we can all achieve our goals and dreams. Thank you again for your servant leadership.

  48. Hey there Tony
I have been working a 9-5 job for the past 5 years as I am still young and have some more youthful years ahead, God willing. I got married when I was 26 years old and it has been nothing but a blessing, no kids just yet.

I recently quit my job because I felt like I was sinning against God by being there. This made my daily life at home and work a living hell until I decided that I had suffered enough and just quit.

The reason why I mention this is because I also had plans to build my online business while I was still employed and then quit after. Family is extremely important to me too and what I was becoming because of my work adversely affected my family life.

I couldn’t wait any longer and one day I woke up in the morning and my wife and I were complaining about my work as usual and right there and then, we decided I should quit and until today I haven’t set foot at work.

My online business is nowhere near where I need it to be but now I get to focus on it more and take my time which is a breath of fresh air. Some people can wait and others can’t. What we all can agree on is that quitting our jobs for the sake of ourselves, our families, and our sanity because we can make a living online has been nothing but a blessing!

  50. Thank you for your introduction. I just know that you are a internet veteran and pay little attention to your family life. You are a big family man. It seems that you started your online business with attention to take good care of your family.

I can see that you devote a lot of time to Vance, driving him to school, picking up him from school, and then there are band or baseball after school. You are fully occupied with your baby. I know partly why you want to make the internet business working so that you have the freedom to spend time with your family.

I have two kids and they are grow-up now. I remember that it was so hard to have 9-5 job and took care of my kids in the same time. I wish I have my own internet business back then.

  51. Tony, you have an amazing story. Your bio is so rich and inspiring. Men like you are not common in today’s society. Men who have love and time for family, God, and business. I’m so sorry to hear about your wife being late. What a painful huge loss! Thank God if she believed in Jesus, she has the hope of internal life. And for your favorite son Venace, he is a blessed child. I think, that you discovered your passion to be online marketing, and followed it with enthusiasm. And your vision has paid off.

Another interesting point to note is how you handled your full-time job, and gradually transitioned into full-time online marketing. You started it as a hobby and part-time side business. I can only imagine, how tedious your truck and moving job was, and always being on the road, it is a risky job but with a good salary.  You must be a man of destiny, considering all you’ve been through.

And it is equally, interesting to learn that you have been helping hundreds of online marketers to earn income online. That’s a rewarding experience. Keep up the good job!

  52. Hi Tony,
I’m great reading about how you got started. I start in the online affiliate marketing industry and thanks to the pandemic I have a lot of time to devote to it. However, I have no intention of quitting my day job until I have a security blanket in the form of a good savings account and a steady income twice what I am earning now.

I don’t expect to be an overnight success but your story gives me much courage. My greatest wish in starting my internet business is to have more time for family. I hope I hope I will be in a position to quit my job someday soon.

    Cheers,

  71. This gives me hope that I if I keep up what I’m doing it’ll pay off and I can earn some passive income whilst also helping others, just like you do, and did whilst working a full time job plus family!

I tend to do a few hours each evening for 3 or 4 evenings a week and some each weekend if there’s time, so I need to remind myself that when I “let it slide” I have already put some work in lol.

When I started trading I had a similar response from people regarding the attitude of “he’s doing his internet stuff,” and only a couple of people were interested in trying it for themselves. Others just seemed to think it was scammy or a waste of time. One person I helped get started is making more profit and learning more than me, so I think that’s paid off already and hopefully when I get going on the affiliate stuff I can then help others again.

I like with your stuff that helping people goes hand in hand with making an income, it really shows and puts you well ahead of the scammers and “course providers.”

One thing I haven’t been able to do is find your groups on Facebook. I’ve copied both and pasted them direct but they won’t come up (individually, of course). Are they still live?

    Keep up the good work!

It is really difficult when you start. Therefore, I agree with your idea. First, state the online business as a part-time job before you have a stable audience and income.

Thanks for sharing about your family. I guess that you have a more great time with your family due to the online business. I wish one day I am the same as you. Participate in different interests and gain a stable and free income.

  75. Thanks so much Tony for sharing your story, I’ve been following your for a couple of years now, and I know how hard you’ve worked to get your online business going and making a full income for you.

As I read your article, it is clear for me, how clear you had set up your goals from the beginning, I know it wasn’t easy for you to work 10 hours every week on your online business when you had a 50 hours per week regular job, plus you have to take care of your son, house and a few more things. But by sharing how hard you worked from the beginning to create your own online business, it will help many to take a look about what is needed to get success on an online business. I’m sure that you will be a great help to anyone who is interested to start working on a website to make money from it, you are always looking to help as many as you can!

I just love the flexibility of not having to commute as long as I have the access to internet and I can work. I do not mind working hard but I find commute to be a waste of my time. That mean instead of commuting to work, I will get to use that time to spend with my loved ones. I love your time management tip. I think it is best for all beginners to have some sort of stable income and slowly build the online business, once it take off you can quit your job. I am actually doing that right now, I also invest some of my money in stocks as well.

  101. Hi Tony, this was one of your most engaging posts. You told an honest story about how you made affiliate marketing work for you. The biggest point was how hard you work at it even now. 40-50 hours a week is a lot. Hence I am amazed you were able to replace your salary working 10 hours a week when you had a full time job.

My only conclusion is you enjoy affiliate marketing so much you spend your time willingly even though you many be able to get away with 10 hours a week. Am I right?

So glad that you are able to spend so much time with your family, especially with your son, Vance. He looks like a joy to you. My wife and I also adopted our son because we couldn’t have natural born kids. He is grown up now and has his own family.

You say it how it is and in a real way. I see so many articles for that have a couple of sentences saying “I was drowning in credit card debt then I found this…… Sign up here and all your problems will be solved.” Instead you speak to the individual as a friend, many people could learn from this.

  125. Hello Tony,

Your Post truly shows us, beginners in this field, that really anybody could start with Affiliate Marketing. This wasn’t a negative remark, maybe some of your visitors could think that :O

I think using your creative genes and really everybody has them, is the light in the future. Some can write better text and others are better with the graphic thing. You, Tony, are a Master in writing as if you’re talking. I’m Dutch, so in English you’d say it differently, I guess.

Tony, my friend, I wish you a bright future, for you and your family 🙂

  129. Wow!!Thats very encouraging testimony, I’m also on a full-time job at the moment and find it hard to balance, online business, family and work both at the same time.Normally, when I come from work it’s straight to the kitchen, shower, social media browsing for an hour then bed. So how do you motivate your self to maintain the momentum?

  134. Hi Tony and thanks for the honest and open introduction to your family and to your history. Well some of it I guess, I’m sure there is much more you could tell. When I look back, particularly on my work career it is so interesting to think about how I have played such different roles for different people. I sometimes wonder if you were to put them all in the same room whether they would all recognize me. Reading your story though is a reminder of what is important. What we do is important especially when we are really helping people, as you do with the resources on your site, but what is more important is why we do it. You have very clearly discovered the why of what you do and that gives you energy and joy. Thanks for sharing, best regards, Andy

  135. While reading your post, I felt like I was getting reacquainted with an old friend.

I am currently putting in 2-3 hours a day on my website work, training, etc. I am putting in around 20 hours a week on my day job as with COVID-19 my hours have been slashed. I am putting in more hours per week into my blogs and businesses than I am in my 9 to ? job now! And I love it. The income has been very sporadic, but I am working towards the day when my online income exceeds my day job income! Thank you for sharing your inspirational story!

  137. Hi Tony,

Thanks for pouring your heart out in this article! So sorry to hear about your beloved wife; MHSRIP!

I can relate with many of the points you raised in the article. You said, “I also made an agreement with myself that I wouldn’t quit my full time job until my online income matched my full time job’s income.” That to me is definitely the MINIMUM we should be aiming for when we work full time online. And probably we should aim to equal and surpass the IDEAL salary we should have been getting in our paid jobs (far too often we are far from the ideal!)

I also how you put it, “using our wisdom and mental skills, and not our bodies to make a living”. I recommend this even to younger people – if they feel a certain job is giving their bodies too much of a bashing, they should learn new skills (such as Online Entrepreneurship) sooner than later, while continuing their jobs as safely as possible (because jobs are getting harder and harder to get). And if it should seem to be heading towards being unbearable, then they should look to relying on their newly found skills.

  139. You seem to have come a long way. It is no easy task trying to balance work-life with family life but if one is really looking to build a business online then it is something they are going to have to try and figure out. It is also best that before one fully dives into an online business to make sure they keep their day time job because to be successful online takes quite some time and you would not be too pressured if you already earn money. That is very important and not a lot of people know that. They believe to just start an online business and expect it to start making money immediately and when it doesn’t they become discouraged and endup quitting.

  140. Kia Ora Tony,
Hi there, I could relate to some of your post, like deciding to stay up an extra hour at night or get up an hour earlier in the morning to devote some time to working on your online business. Thats exactly what I have been doing for the past week, just to get some research, reading and writing time in as I build my own online business.
You also mentioned that you wouldn’t quit your fulltime job until your online income matched your fulltime job income which is understandable because it is about having peace of mind that you know there is going to be a steady income to sustain your household living needs, so I could understand that decision. I agree with you saying you learnt more about yourself and others, we all can learn more about ourselves and other people during this journey of building an online business. Do you think that with all the world events going on in 2020 that now is a good time to start building an affiliate marketing business, and why do you think that?

  144. Wow, that was an interesting read and great to see how far you have come. The internet lifestyle is something we should all work to achieve, as having that extra time to do the things that matter in life is what makes life worth living. Working 50 hours a week at a job you hate is not going to make anybody happy.

Since we all have to work and earn a living, why not try to do something that you enjoy at least, and you have achieved that in your life so congratulations to you.

But in contrast with you, I’m just starting online. But I’m glad I found the best mentor.

  146. You really sound like my kind of guy. Thank you for sharing all this and learn a bit more about you. But more importantly I feel, you definitely helped me to see the bigger picture. And be a bit more optimistic.

You see, I recently took a pretty big fall. Just when things started to align up so nicely to say I came crashing down back to earth would be an understatement. I came crashing down and dug at least a few miles deep. Since then I’ve been able to rebuild but it’s nowhere near what it used to be. Will have to keep on working. Will have to keep not giving up.

    God bless, Tony! Cheers.

  149. Hi, Tony — it’s really nice to get the background info on you.  I seem to keep commenting on your posts, so now you’ve made things a bit more personal by giving us info about you and your life.

You’ve had quite a journey, thus far, but it looks like you are reaching your goals.  You are therefore a great inspiration for the rest of us who are still struggling to get there.

I completely agree with you that it is nice to use the mind instead of the body to do our daily work.  As I am 81, soon to be 82, I have a great appreciation of that circumstance.  It’s nice that the mind still works, and sometimes better than ever, when you get older.

Best of luck to you as you continue your journey.  I wish you all the success you want.

This truly is an inspirational article.  It is great that you were able to change things in your life so that life rules instead of our jobs.

You are still one of the leaders in the Wealthy Affiliate and the affiliate marketing world.

Thank you once again for reminding us how important family time is.

  151. Hey Tony, thanks for sharing a piece of you with us, including your affiliate marketing journey. I am encouraged by the method that you used to acheive your goals and your frankness that it didn’t all come together immediately. Balancing family and online work is also a challenge I have come to learn in my two years of affiliate marketing. At times, you are led to think that all you need to do is build that website and the money will come rolling in. Your post has debunked that myth. Thank you for your honesty.

  152. Hello Tony, thanks for sharing your inspirational story.  I definitely want to build a massive passive income online.  I have tried other business opportunities in the past with little to no financial gain.  However, all my past experiences and my desire to grow and improve as a human being have brought me a long way.  I know that if I work at learning and applying what I learn my persistence will eventually payoff.   I also know what it is like to have friends and family not believe in me and what I am trying to do.  In the end all that really matters is that I believe in myself.  I want to set the best possible example for my son as well.

    Cheers,

    David

  153. Thank you for such nice and motivational words. I’m also trying to make my part-time online business a full-time income and quit working in a factory. It is a great feeling when you can help someone who is starting the same journey as you are on. I think you did a great thing with so little time as two hours daily, I’m very interested in how you managed that? How long did it take you to start earning the same amount of money online as you did on your previous job?
