It is a very competitive market – however it is as you said very doable to become a digital consultant and help businesses become successful . However if someone starts as a beginner him/herself, they would have to at least acquire pre intermediate level to teach beginners at a first instance . I have seen successful campaigns with email marketing and social media campaigns in all niches so to teach people how to achieve this would be very beneficial So maybe concentrating on one or two areas of expertise ad studying them hardcore instead of just coving all of them superficially . You mentioned that we could cover our own niche or make it more generic which is very interesting – Personally I would keep it generic to cover all niches as I dont have that super advanced level in my own niche yet .

I really like your topic. It is short and to the point. You know exactly what it is about from reading your header (I’ve looked at many sites and all too often, it is not always clear what the site is about without having to read through it a ways). You come across as honest with a lot of information to share. A lot of places, especially YouTube, kick things off with a photo of their bank account, showing large deposits of money they claim to have made off the internet. I was just looking at one yesterday. I quit the video when the bank account stuff came up. I generally don’t trust these people. You, mercifully, don’t do this.
You describe how making money online entails a lot of hard work. Other sites (and YouTube videos, amongst many others) always talk about how you can make money online with just a few hours a week of work. I know from experience that this is not the case. You might get away with this if you develop a source of passive income, but it takes a long time and a lot of work getting there.
I definitely plan on following the links on your page. And yes, as you say, I have seen ads for bloggers on Indeed. I love working out of my home, or anywhere else I happen to be.
I usually look at people’s websites on my phone because Google considers this to be very important. In fact they claim that 85% of people online are using some sort of mobile device. In fact, I use my phone all the time for browsing. I just updated my browser and it’s now acting a little funny – it’s only showing the top few lines of the page (I’ll get to the bottom of that shortly). If you haven’t already done so, make sure you check your page on your phone or tablet to make sure it renders correctly. From having done this many times, your page looks like like it should do just fine.

This is a great post! Freelancing is one way to get the freedom everyone wants. You would be able to work at your own pace. Being a digital marketer would just be one of the ways you could do as a freelancer. There would be a lot more opportunities out there but this is really a great option because I think that marketers would always be in demand.
The way your site loads is strange. It does not immediately open your developed home page. I would suggest fixing the at. Also, your front page is not as visually appealing as it could be. You are offering some valuable products, but they are not displayed to figure out what the connection is. I guess it needs to be more cohesive. Make each page look similar to the others so they can see your unique personality throughout them. I like the galaxy background on the front page. Overall the site feels scattered and busy. This makes it difficult for readers to spend time exploring and gathering the information you have for them.

Freelancing on its own is what everyone, once in a while, dreams of. The freedom of setting your own pace and hours of work is delighting. Unfortunately not many people ask themselves these sort of questions you outline here before ditching the 9 – 5.
Frustrations and regrets crop up at the first signs of road blocks since this decision was based on scams online promising overnight successes, with minimal effort! It is therefore very informative that you have written all these to help people make the right choices.
I would not recommend that freelancers work on UpWork, Fivver, etc… some of the other sites like Freelancer or Indeed might be ok. But those sites like UpWork are so cheap and you can really get scammed as a freelancer. It might be ok to start out but once you have a couple of testimonials, get off those sites and know your worth!

It never seizes to amaze me just how much people can potentially make from an online job. I honestly have no idea why it continues to surprise me. It definitely shouldn’t. Work-From-Anywhere jobs are just as reputable as any on-location job. I think I was first introduced to work-from-home careers about 10 years ago. My interest was immediately piqued. But I still find myself at a job I despise because it seems like every possible opportunity I attempt turns out to be phony. Now, I’m about 99.98% sure that is my own fault. Although all the questions at the end of your post I answered it with yes, but to become a Freelance digital marketing consultant, doesn’t seem like a job for everyone because the meaning of the word consultant itself is a person who provides expert advice professionally. So maybe it will be difficult for people who are working for the first time in this field and if taking the course will certainly take a lot of time and maybe some money. In times of pandemics like now, online work is indeed a very promising opportunity, but for beginners, with limited financial conditions, it might be an obstacle. But honestly, your posts are very valuable information and should be considered.
Making money online has been a wonderful experience for me for some time now. Some folks thinks it’s magically or kind of a rocket science. But it’s not. One just need a good course and a mentor to guide and shape you along the way. Learning a digital skill can make you become a specialist in them. Right now I’m focusing and advancing my skill on SEO. I want to be a consultant in that field.
I thought that I might share some of the freelance jobs that I found to be useful over the years. One that I did was PR where I managed local google listings or helped respond to reviews. It paid well but only lasted for a month because the business owner wanted more of a marketing gig. So, I polished my lead gen skills and did some marketing for local businesses and let me tell you, that’s a lucrative business model!
I don’t know that I would have the time to do a freelance digital marketing job LOL. I did communications/telecommunications for 25 years, so it would be something I think I could easily do. I will have to ponder this and maybe it should be something I do. I am certainly knowledgeable enough in some of the areas.

I have always wanted to work from home using my computer. I started at Desktop Publishing where I created labels, brochures, signs, business cards etc for clients. Then added computer repair – then went on to creating websites and moved on to SEO – although I found this at the time to be quite time consuming – and with Google constantly changing what it wants – the updates on the site never stopped. Where this leaves for great work opportunities -it makes for customers that fall off from page one from time to time as I played catch up and that made me feel extremely stressed. I got out of that business for a while only to find myself working for Google as a website rater! I did that for 1 year and a half. When I moved I had to give that job up. So here I am, looking at work from home on my computer opportunities once again. I can tell everyone – it can be done.

But I think I am 1000% qualified mostly based on the fact that I love to work from home as that is the most convenient place to work from. In my opinion, freelance is the same as nine-to-five work, with advantages and disadvantages. I agree that you can start it as a part-time job, start a website yourself, and then learn the relevant knowledge mentioned above. If the income increases and stabilizes, it can be converted into a full-time job.
Which of those jobs/industries you’d think are the most beginner-friendly, for those who are looking to get into the online money making world? Sure, some of these require a level of experience in one or other field, but for someone who’s starting out and looking for that passive income online?

I haven’t worked freelance digital marketing jobs, but I have gotten other jobs at Upwork. I don’t like how they charge you 20%, but it’s definitely a legitimate way to get some work that will pay you. Although it’s not sexy having a W-2 job, if you can get a company to hire you to do digital marketing for them, then you’re essentially getting paid by them to hone your craft and you can take those same skills and apply them to your own websites.
Being a Digital Marketing Consultant is not an easy task. I know some people that are doing this job and it’s very hard and you need to put a lot of your time into it. A lot of tasks that you need to do. Some Clients want more then other and you have to provide your best services to them. I think specifically for SEO optimization or social media marketing, I’ve learned just from my own experience, that just approaching a client and telling them that you’re going to help them land more clients for their business, really makes their eyes open up. You’re right too, you bill the customer for the month or for the client. I actually recently built out a local SEO website for plumbers. Now that it’s getting traffic, I’ve connected the phone number to a registered plumber in the town I chose, and once they get a few initial calls, I plan to call the plumber and ask them if they’d like more customers from me, which is when we can negotiate a price. You’re right, this is the world we live in now and there really are many different digital services we can offer so we can add great value to the world!

I’m interested to start this business to be honest, but I hesitate a lot because I don’t have a specific skill. I mean, I can be good for example at SEO, but I’m not an expert, and that’s the problem. That’s why I’m scared to get started. maybe I need to get some training first in order to become the expert, and then I can join the freelance business.

Being a long-term project, I have zeroed my mind to work as a freelance writer independently through my own site. I have never been interested in working for freelancing platforms like Freelancer, Indeed, Guru, Fiverr, and others. So, I launched my freelancing skills on my website homepage and it’s been an amazing freelancing experience so far.

It seems like you can make a decent amount of money with working this way. I am used to being in control when I freelance and working from home and that’s why I like the idea of digital freelance marketing.
There’s nothing better than working for yourself and not having to answer to a boss. While there is a lot to consider it still the better option of work. And $66,000 a year is a pretty good some of money to make as a freelancer.

I enjoyed reading all the comments as well, but for someone like myself have tons of interest in many areas so much that I now have purchased half a dozen systems, “already done for you” systems that just sit there because I lack the knowledge behind setting up and implementing what’s necessary to get them up and running. With that being said, It leaves me very frustrated and angry and a pounding headache, to hear “so simple even a 7 year old could do it!” I’m not the brightest person but I’m not the dumbest either. In addition to all that, I’m not the wealthiest either, single mom that lost my job do to covid-19 and barely getting by with savings is getting smaller and smaller not being able to make not one of these systems generate any type of income and not willing to risk losing the little savings I have left, how expensive is it for your type of service or what would you suggest someone in my situation do? It is at this difficult time (covid) that many of us struggle to earn an income. We either lose our job or salary cut. Many local, small companies/retails are going online (need to) but these owners especially the older generations may not have the knowledge of e-commerce and digital marketing. Hence, we can help them with the most basic website development and online marketing while we earn some income. Help others to help ourselves.
While I have not been in the Digital Marketing Arena I did have a stint where I did video production and editing as a freelancer online. For me, it was very much a mixed bag. I had some great jobs that went well and I lost a few jobs, but at that time, about 12 years ago, it was not something that I could quit my day job for. Since I almost started an online business, the first thing that came to my mind was an email ad. This came to my mind because I also get commercials, but only for areas that interest me, so they don’t bother me with things that don’t interest me. I consider Email marketing to be a very good thing and right at the beginning of my business I hired the right people to be able to offer my clients new services, new packages and options. We know their interests and based on that we classify them, so we know to whom we send what content. Hi Tony, I have probably thought, like others who are starting out trying to build an online affiliate marketing business, that maybe complimenting with freelance work in that same field may not be a bad idea. Especially when traffic and sales are slow. But then that raises the obvious question, do I really have the skills someone else could use if I am not able to make it work for my own business. I would also think that it may be easier to find freelance digital marketing work for local businesses. Another thought is that if you have work experience in another area, would it not also make sense to look for digital marketing work that is related to that area. This was and is a great read. Major information shared in a concise methodology. We can all earn a living Online if we take the time to apply basic principles to the knowledge we have accumulated concerning different topics of interest we each have. This interest has developed different levels of expertise that others can learn from. I have always said when people refer to “Genius, all of us are a Genius in the areas of our knowledge we have each accumulated within that (those) subject(s) we have the most interest within. Genius is not a distinction to scholarly book learning aptitude but to the mastery of having maximized our knowledge in a particular subject. If you think of it in this mindset, we have all learned from a genius and we pass that genius on to others as our knowledge increases.

find a freelance dgital marketer is not easy. Specially if you just change your career from a to b. you will not have much resume to promote yourself or perhaps you have none. I think what people most needed is not how to gain the skill or how to find the client, well it does important, but they also very much need the portofilio, the testimoni that can support their career. Imagine youself as a client then come a person that just enter the be freelancer in 1 day while none of their career was any related to the field you are looking, but you don’t know they might have the skill.

I’ve had good success at finding freelance gigs on Upwork. It took me a little time to build up my reputation there, but now it is paying off and I find that most of the projects that I take on, come to me now, rather than me having to search for them.

I’ve been looking at taking some free courses with Google Garage or SEMRUSH to become an SEO specialist.
The one concern I have is that I’ve seen there are a lot of technicians offering their services from other countries, and they are willing to work for $10 an hour.
How stiff is the competition in this area? Can I actually get paid $22 an hour on average?

But, I have to stop and realise, things I have learned online, like blog writing and getting my posts on Googles page 1 are achievements and definitely things or (a freelance job) I could do for someone that hasn’t learned that skill. The first area I learned from is earning full and part-time revenue as a freelance digital marketer. I’ve been passionate at freelance writing for more than 7 years, but haven’t made the most out of this.
When it comes to charging clients, I have been so fair at that and have always considered the different clients according to their purse. There are many jobs for freelancing, however, I do feel that places like Upwork and LinkedIn are really competitive, probably if I put in the effort I could get some clients. Freelancers do earn a reasonable amount of income and not ot mention they have flexible hours of work. So it is quite good.

Even though I know the basics of SEO, keyword optimization and email marketing I don’t think I could work in one of those fields. I think that it is very important to understand that whichever field you choose, there needs to be some training involved. I did training on SEO and seriously after the second chapter (out of 6) the instructor said that that was how far most people do when you pay for SEO services.
Do not be discourage because it should not be that difficult to gain enough knowledge to do a digital marketing job. Great article.

I have to say that I get quite uncomfortable hearing MLM … There are indeed many such offers on the market already but I really can’t name one that would be “the one of it”. I myself don’t know much about MLM but I have heard a lot of bad opinions and I don’t remember anyone praising this opportunity.

Earning while you are learning is a sound concept. Especially in the world of digital marketing. Once a person is able to create a website for their own business, along with using SEO properly, they are all set to do the same for clients needing this service.
I can see two parts to this income earning option. The first is a flat fee for designing and creating a website. The second is a monthly maintenance fee to monitor the website and to keep it updated. This could result in a nice stream of residual income, especially if one is able to put together a group of clients.

There are definitely tons of opportunities in the online space that revolve around consulting work and as more and more people begin to work from home, over the long-term, I sense this will only grow. If an individual is driven to learn and willing to put the time in, they can certainly find places to grow their own online presence in the business world.
I think the only thing that stops more people from doing this sort of work is that there is a learning curve which one has to apply before one is able to earn an income. In general, people don’t want to have to spend months learning, they just want to be able to earn straight away, but sadly it doesn’t work that way in any field you go into.
So great checklist at the bottom of your post, because if you aren’t willing to put in the time to learn how to do it, then you are probably wasting your time thinking about becoming a digital marketer.

this is a great way to earn decent money online, though I don’t personally recommend it. The reason is very simple. Most people who come online are here to try and earn big money. And tasks such as those connected with Freelance digital marketing do not pay quite as high as affiliate marketing.
But if one wants to start a side hustle, then it is the best way to earn money.

Freelancing is a great way to be your own boss, I however have never gotten into it because I never knew where to start. Maybe the 15 day program might be able to open me up to be a freelance digital marketing job. I am going to school for marketing so maybe my schooling and this program will be able to go together.
This is a very good job opportunity that should be Worth the try here. I see that with this, I should be able to make some really good money and also kick off my own online business. I do posses some social media skills. In addition the internet is something that I do know quite well. I am keen to start work as a freelance digital marketer. Great post as always. When I first started out in digital marketing, I didn’t know the world of possibilities out there. As you mentioned, there are many options for those who want to work from home or wherever they are.
I’m currently learning more about email marketing since I’m interested in trying it out. I think my site could benefit from it.
I’m also considering doing some copywriting jobs. I don’t know whether I should start on my own or through a company and then switch. I’ll see.
